Six Photographs That Can Make a Motor Claim Easier to Explain
Share India Editorial Team
After a collision, most people photograph the damaged bumper and stop. That close-up proves damage exists, but it may not explain where the vehicles were, which direction they travelled or what road conditions looked like.
If everyone is safe and local rules permit, capture the wider story before the scene changes.
Work from wide to close
Stand somewhere safe and avoid obstructing traffic. Do not argue with another driver or place yourself in danger for a better angle.
- The full road and direction of travel
- Final position of all involved vehicles
- Registration plates and visible damage
- Road signs, signals and lane markings
- Skid marks, debris or a relevant obstruction
- The dashboard showing warning lights where safe
Add a short factual note
Record the time, location, weather, contact details and any authority reference. Notify the insurer promptly and follow instructions before repairs. Avoid guessing at speed or fault in the first message.
One last thought
Good photographs do not decide liability on their own. They give the people reviewing the claim a clearer scene than memory can provide days later.
Coverage, exclusions, limits and claim requirements vary by insurer and policy. Read the customer information sheet and policy wording before you buy or renew.
