Your Car Was Caught in a Flood. Do These Things First

Seeing water around a parked car creates an understandable urge to start the engine and check whether it still runs. Resist that urge. If water has entered the engine or electrical system, another start attempt may make the damage worse.

Safety comes first. Once the area is safe, focus on evidence, notification and approved movement of the vehicle.

At the scene

Take wide and close photographs showing the water level, location and visible damage. Note the time. Do not wade into moving or contaminated water to retrieve documents.
