A Once-a-Year Personal Insurance Review You Can Finish Over Tea
Share India Editorial Team
Insurance reviews are easy to postpone because nothing appears broken. Premiums are paid, policies renew and documents arrive by email. Meanwhile, salaries change, parents age, loans are taken and hospital costs move.
Pick one date each year and review the household together. Tea is optional, but keeping the conversation short helps it happen again next year.
Put every policy on one page
List policy number, insurer, insured people, sum insured, renewal date, nominee and emergency contact. Include employer cover but mark it separately because it can change with employment.
- Check health cover, waiting periods and room eligibility.
- Recalculate life cover after loans or family changes.
- Review motor IDV, add-ons and driver details.
- Update home contents and valuable items.
- Store documents where another adult can find them.
End with three actions
Do not turn the review into a week-long research project. Decide the three most important follow-ups, name the person responsible and set a date. The rest can wait for the next check.
What to remember
The purpose is not to buy something every year. It is to make sure the protection you already pay for still matches the life you are living.
Coverage, exclusions, limits and claim requirements vary by insurer and policy. Read the customer information sheet and policy wording before you buy or renew.
